All around the world Muslims are fasting during the month of Ramadan. Fasting is the time period when you don’t eat or drink anything only for a certain length of time. Fasting is not only observed by Muslims, but people from other religion also take part according to their respective religion. But through this article, we will concentrate on the term intermittent fasting and discuss its benefits.

Before moving further, it is very important to know the term intermittent fasting. If you think intermittent fasting is simply a diet, then you are very wrong. It is a pattern where we decide when to eat and for how long we should skip meals. In this way, this fasting sounds like an umbrella term where all various sorts of diets and is one form of calorie restriction. Intermittent fasting is said to be observed when someone continues to eat very less for a couple of weeks and then eats in moderate amounts for the other days.




The idea about intermittent fasting was introduced by our ancestors: they gathered and hunted food and enjoyed eating during feasts. When their sources were limited, they would simply fast.

One advantage of intermittent fasting is that it helps you to shed some pounds. If you are really interested in losing some weight and when all other diets failed to help you, then you should really this intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting has other benefits such as anti-aging. According to scientists, IF helps to prevent the skin from looking old and dull. This happens because as you are giving up on food, your blood sugar level drops. Due to this calorie restriction, the cells of our body work harder to use other forms of energy. Another benefit of IF is it helps to avert oxidative stress, which can perhaps, damage our body cells. When cells continue to get damage and die, we can get caught into serious health diseases which include heart disease and cancer as well.  Now you see, when the free radicals from our body are literally gone, it makes the skin look younger from the outside though you can feel this from inside.

Intermittent fasting and SIRT3

When you are observing intermittent fasting, the cells make a copy of this gene known as SIRT3. This protein gene actually contains a portion of the path that averts the formation of free radicals.  Addition to this, the above actions helps to improve cell repair so that the body can function well and make you feel better.

So to keep it simple, it’s high time for you to try IF or alternate day fasting if you are keen to burn some of your body fats. Apart from making you lose weight, IF can assist you to look younger than ever lower your insulin level, reducing the risk of having diabetics.

As IF is the new alternative type of standard dieting, everyone tends to mix it up with usual dieting. This IF is basically reducing the amount of food for few days or until the time you achieve your goal weight. If you decide to stick to this plan for a week, then you are, more probable to lose about should lose 1lb (0.46kg) a week. This amount can be high for a man. Besides, success depends on not eating much (over-eating) on normal days or during holidays when your mom cooks delicious foods with cheese and other calorie building products.
